State-run Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) has signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Adani Cement, to facilitate the large-scale, rail-based movement of bulk cement.
Under this MoU, CONCOR will operate dedicated container rakes (trains) using specialised tank containers. The goal is to shift a substantial portion of cement transport from road to rail, leveraging the extensive Indian Railways network and CONCOR's multimodal logistics expertise.
Vinod Bahety, CEO of Adani Cement said, "This MoU will further help Adani Cement journey to lowest cost producer & commitment to net zero emissions by 2050. This will also support the Indian Govt COP26 initiative.”
As per the press release, the initiative is expected to deliver multiple benefits by minimising road transport, the partnership aims to significantly reduce carbon emissions, supporting India's net-zero targets and the green freight objectives of the National Logistics Policy.
The partnership also creates a scalable model that could inspire similar eco-friendly bulk logistics solutions across other industries.
