July 23, 2019: Cathay Pacific has completed the acquisition of Hong Kong Express Airways (HK Express), making the latter its wholly owned subsidiary.

Effective September 1, Cathay Pacific Cargo will be the General Sales and Service Agent (GSSA) for all HK Express cargo activities across its entire network. HK Express will continue to operate as usual and work closely with Hong Kong Air Cargo Carrier Limited (RH), the incumbent cargo GSSA for HK Express, to ensure a smooth transition.

“We are very excited to welcome HK Express into the group. We strongly believe that the acquisition is good for the customers, good for HK Express, good for the Cathay Pacific Group, and good for the development of Hong Kong as a global aviation hub,” said Rupert Hogg, Cathay Pacific chief executive officer and HK Express chairman.

HK Express covers regional routes between Hong Kong and Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia, mainland China and Taiwan using its 24 narrow-body aircraft. The acquisition means the combined cargo network of Cathay Pacific, Cathay Dragon and HK Express will progressively offer more choices to customers.
