MMRDA to elevate Metro IV corridor

Update: 2016-03-07 00:40 GMT
The entire Wadala-Kasarwadavli Metro IV route will most likely be an elevated stretch as against the initial plan of making it partially underground. The MMRDA officials, who are who are awaiting for a report by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on the project, have hinted on this change of plan. Running the Metro line underground could escalate the cost of the project by almost nine times and so it is feasible to run it on an elevated stretch. ''We are awaiting a detailed project report from the DMRC, following which we will present it before our executive committee. The line could run on an elevated stretch in Thane as against the earlier plan of making it partly underground," said a senior MMRDA official. Meanwhile, a team led by MMRDA additional commissioner Sanjeev Sethi, along with TMC officials, visited the Ovla site, where the proposed car shed is said to come up, on Tuesday. Around 30 hectares of land is required for the Metro project. But the officials are facing stiff opposition from locals. Following this, the TMC has been asked to work out a rehabilitation policy for those who will be affected by the project.
