JSW Infrastructure gets LOI to set up first ICD in Ballari region
The ICD will handle import and export cargo and is to be made operational within one year, adding a new logistics facility to JSW Infrastructure’s network soon.
JSW Infrastructure has received a Letter of Intent (LOI) to set up an Inland Container Depot (ICD) at Kudathini in Ballari district, Karnataka. The ICD will be the first in the Ballari region and will handle import and export cargo.
The LOI was issued by the Inter-Ministerial Committee of the Ministry of Finance, Department of Revenue, Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, to JSW Port Logistics Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of JSW Infrastructure.
The ICD is part of JSW Infrastructure’s plans to develop a Multi-Modal Logistics Park at Kudathini, including a fully equipped ICD. The company had earlier acquired a brownfield rail siding at Kudathini through JSW Port Logistics and started interim operations at the rail siding in March 2026.
Under the LOI, the ICD is to be set up within one year from the date of issue of the LOI, subject to its terms and conditions.
The development comes as JSW Infrastructure expands its port and logistics operations. In the first quarter of FY2027, the company reported an 18% year-on-year increase in revenue from operations to ₹14.45 billion. Cargo volumes rose 6% to 31 million tonnes during the quarter.
Its logistics business, which includes Navkar Corp and the rail rakes business, reported revenue of ₹2.37 billion in Q1 FY2027, compared with ₹1.38 billion in the same period a year earlier. Operating EBITDA for the logistics segment increased to ₹730 million from ₹200 million.
JSW Infrastructure has also been expanding its container operations. In June 2026, the company received an LOA from Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Authority for the integrated development of the Outer Container Terminal and Berths 1 to 5 at Netaji Subhas Dock in the Kolkata Dock System. The project has a planned handling capacity of around 0.93 million TEUs and a 30-year concession period.
The Kolkata project is expected to take JSW Infrastructure’s total container handling capacity at the Kolkata Dock System to around 1.4 million TEUs after completion, including its ongoing Berth 7 and 8 project.
