The railways will be completely transformed within the next five years, Girish Pillai, advisor to the Railway Board said in a statement at the ‘Railways Make in India in action’ seminar at the ‘Make in India’ centre. “The foreign direct investment and the productivity of the Indian Railways would give it a completely new look and feel in every sense within next five years,” Pillai said while addressing the session of business opportunities in railways on the fourth day of the ‘Make in India’ week. Several top railway officials along with heads of several corporates attended the session. Railways has tremendous capacity and hence offers immense possibilities as far as private investment to employment generation are concerned, he said. This year’s RailwayBudget will have a special provision for new design of railway coaches, Pillai said adding that efforts like these would completely change the appearance of the railways. Considering the fact that in the times to come the railways would be the prime mode of transport, it is the responsibility of the railways to give best services to the passengers. This means that the focus in times to come would be on high speed railway and AC locals.
