Jupiter Wagons secures ₹3.24 billion orders for ACT2 wagon platform
Jupiter Wagons secured private sector orders worth ₹3.24 billion from GATX India and Chetak International for its new ACT2 automobile carrier wagons.
Jupiter Wagons Limited (JWL), a prominent manufacturer of rolling stock and mobility solutions in India, has successfully secured substantial private sector business for its new-design ACT2 wagon platform. The combined orders, stemming from a Letter of Intent from GATX India Private Limited and a firm order from Chetak International Private Limited, represent a total business value exceeding ₹3.24 billion, inclusive of GST.
GATX India Private Limited, a leading company in the rail-leasing sector, issued a Letter of Intent to Jupiter Wagons for the manufacture and supply of 10 rakes of ACT2 automobile carrier wagons. This specific agreement involves the delivery of 270 ACT2 wagons and is valued at ₹2.15 billion.
In an independent development, Jupiter Wagons also received a confirmed order from Chetak International Private Limited. This contract entails the manufacture and supply of five rakes of ACT2 wagons, which translates to 135 individual units. The total value of the Chetak International order stands at ₹1.09 billion.
These strategic wins highlight the accelerating market traction for the specialised ACT2 platform amongst private logistics operators and wagon-leasing enterprises. The latest contracts also reinforce a highly diversified and robust order book for Jupiter Wagons, perfectly balancing demand from private sector clients with ongoing government contracts. Recently, the company secured a significant order from the Ministry of Railways, valued at ₹11.4 billion, for the production of 2583 wagons.
Vivek Lohia, Managing Director of Jupiter Wagons Limited, commented on the recent development, stating that the orders reflect the confidence private logistics operators have in the ACT2 platform and the company's ability to deliver at scale. He noted that as India shifts a larger portion of its freight transport to the rail network, broad-based demand is emerging across both the Indian Railways programme and the private sector. Lohia further emphasised that maintaining a balanced order book across both government and private customers establishes a resilient foundation for long-term growth and provides healthy business visibility.
The recent business acquisitions underscore the position of Jupiter Wagons as a preferred manufacturing partner for high-capacity, specialised wagon platforms. The company operates 14 facilities across India, situated in key industrial hubs such as Kolkata, Jamshedpur, Indore, Jabalpur, Bengaluru, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. This integrated manufacturing footprint features complete backward integration into foundry operations.
Jupiter Wagons remains dedicated to scaling its production capacity to meet the rising demand for rolling stock within India's expanding rail freight landscape. With a corporate legacy spanning over four decades, the company provides comprehensive mobility solutions, offering products that range from freight wagons and locomotives to commercial vehicle load bodies and ISO marine containers. Additionally, JWL manufactures vital railway components including couplers, draft gears, bogies, CMS crossings, brake discs, wheels, and axles. The organisation continues to collaborate with prominent global entities, including Tatravagonka a.s. in Slovakia, DAKO-CZ in the Czech Republic, Kovis d.o.o. in Slovenia, and Talleres Alegria S.A. in Spain.
