In a significant move to strengthen India’s e-commerce exports, the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Amazon India to support micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in accessing global markets through digital commerce.
The collaboration will lead to the formation of a dedicated e-commerce export task force focused on shaping policy frameworks, providing infrastructure support, and increasing awareness about global e-commerce opportunities among Indian exporters. The MoU was signed in New Delhi by Dr Ajay Sahai, Director General and CEO of FIEO, and Mr Chetan Krishnaswamy, Vice President at Amazon.
Dr Sahai said India’s MSMEs, including artisans, weavers and manufacturers, hold strong potential in global trade and can greatly benefit from this partnership. He stressed that the MoU will help small businesses overcome traditional export barriers and become competitive in international markets. Describing the agreement as a milestone for both organisations, he said it aims to institutionalise their relationship and create a supportive ecosystem for e-commerce exports. He also highlighted the government’s new scheme for developing an e-commerce hub, which is expected to further accelerate the country’s export growth.
Mr Krishnaswamy said the partnership marks an important step towards achieving India’s e-commerce export goals of $200 to $300 billion by 2030. He noted that Amazon had already enabled over $13 billion in e-commerce exports from India by 2024 and recently renewed its pledge to enable $80 billion in cumulative exports by 2030. The collaboration will allow Indian sellers to tap into Amazon’s global marketplaces across more than 20 countries.
Mr Srinidhi Kalvapudi, Head of Amazon Global Selling India, said sustainable export growth depends not only on high-quality products but also on a strong support system. He said the partnership with FIEO is aimed at building a scalable and accessible framework for Indian businesses to grow globally. By combining Amazon’s infrastructure with FIEO’s institutional network, the initiative intends to reduce operational hurdles and improve the overall export readiness of Indian entrepreneurs.
The MoU also outlines plans to conduct joint capacity-building programmes and training workshops for export-relevant categories such as home linen, health and personal care, apparel, toys, packaged foods and handicrafts. In addition, local export communities will be formed to offer peer support and easier access to service providers. FIEO will nominate promising exporters from key sectors, while Amazon will assist them with onboarding, compliance, and scaling up operations on its global platforms.
The agreement was signed during a special programme titled “E-Commerce for Exporters: Expanding Reach, Navigating Challenges.” The event also featured stakeholder consultations on e-commerce and an onboarding session conducted by Amazon, where participants discussed key challenges and the path forward for a more enabling export environment.
FIEO, established in 1965 by the Ministry of Commerce and private industry, represents over 200,000 exporters and plays a key role in promoting India’s foreign trade. Amazon Global Selling, launched in India in 2015, enables MSMEs to sell their products in over 200 countries and territories. As of 2025, more than 1.5 lakh Indian exporters have joined the programme, collectively contributing to $13 billion in e-commerce exports. Amazon remains committed to scaling this ecosystem further with the goal of reaching $80 billion by 2030.
