For the first time, GI-tagged Mithila Makhana from Bihar has reached Australia by sea, marking a new milestone for India’s agricultural exports.
The 18-tonne shipment, sourced from farmers in Darbhanga, was exported by NIAD Green with logistics support from Jitban Supply Chain under APEDA’s BHARATI programme.
The export also helped farmers earn nearly 18% higher returns than prevailing local market rates.
Following recent shipments to Dubai and Canada, this milestone highlights how Bihar’s Makhana industry is opening new sea routes and reaching global markets.
