India sends 47.5 tonnes of aid to flood-hit Nepal
IAF aircraft deliver 47.5 tonnes of relief supplies, medicines and food to Nepal as rescue and relief operations continue after devastating floods.
The Indian Air Force despatched two aircraft carrying a combined 47.5 tonnes of humanitarian assistance and disaster relief material to Nepal on 26 and 27 August, after devastating flash floods struck the country on 26 August, killing several people, leaving many more unaccounted for, and causing extensive damage to settlements, roads, bridges and other infrastructure.
The first aircraft, a C-130J with tail number KC-3804, departed around 8:30 pm on 26 August carrying 10 tonnes of relief material, including temporary shelters, blankets, hygiene kits and medicines. A second aircraft, a C-17 with tail number CB-8005, departed from Hindon Airbase in Ghaziabad carrying 37.5 tonnes of supplies, made up of 28.5 tonnes of relief items, 8 tonnes of medicines and 1 tonne of food packets.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said India's humanitarian assistance and medical supplies had reached Kathmandu, and that more assistance was being mobilised, adding that India remained in close and continuous touch with Nepalese authorities and would continue to strongly support the country's relief efforts.
