May 24, 2017: Ministry of Civil Aviation has proposed to expand the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) to include more unserved routes in its second phase.
Aviation secretary R N Choubey reportedly said that various routes like Lucknow-Varanasi, where there is no connectivity would be included in the scheme. He further added that the routes to be connected will be decided by airlines.
The bidding for the second phase of RCS will begin from August and the government plans to take it beyond the 31 unserved routes that will get air connectivity in the first phase.
Under the first round of RCS, 128 routes were awarded to five airlines.
