200 airports to be brought under regional air connectivity, says Jayant Sinha
May 09, 2017: The central government is planning to bring 200 airports under the regional air connectivity scheme, Union Minister of State for Aviation Jayant Sinha has said.
According to reports, Sinha stated that under the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) regional air connectivity scheme, 33 airports have been included since its launch last year in addition to 75 taking the total to 108. He further said that the government intends to take the number to 200 and for this they will have multiple rounds of bidding.
Sinha also informed that the government is also keen to reduce the subsidy burden.
‘UDAN’ (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) is a scheme under which the fares of flights will be capped at Rs 2500 per seat per hour. The ambitious scheme seeks to connect un-served and under-served airports as well as make flying more affordable for the masses.
