Gautam Adani-led Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) will sign an agreement with the Kerala state government on August 17 to build the Vizhinjam deepwater seaport. This was announced after a team of Adani Ports officials led by executive director Karan Adani held talks with Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. The Ahmedabad-headquartered group, which already operates the country’s busiest port at Mundra in Gujarat, had received the “Letter of Award” for developing the Rs 4,089-crore project port last week. The total project cost estimated by the Kerala government is Rs 4,089 crore and the time-frame for commissioning of project is four years which will be met by Adani Group based on its past execution record, it added. “We are very happy to be a part of this prestigious project. We acknowledge the support of Kerala government to develop this deep water multi cargo port in the country. It is a strategic location being very close to international shipping route and has the potential to become the biggest trans-shipment hub in the region,” said Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani.
