VO Chidambaranar Port handles record cargo in a single day

Apr 18, 2017: VO Chidambaranar Port Trust handled 161,935 tonnes of cargo on April 15, 2017. This marks a record of handling the highest volume of cargo in a single day. The new record surpasses the previous single day record of 161,108 tonnes on August 10, 2015. The major cargoes that contributed to the achievement are industrial coal, thermal coal, wheat, fertilizer, limestone and containers cargo.

In the last financial year, the port handled 38.46 million tonnes of cargo with a 4.38 percent surge in cargo growth rate, stated a media release.
