December 9, 2020: The integrated 3PL logistics company Shadowfax and the management consulting firm Redseer together today launched the first-ever quarterly edition of Redseer Shadowfax Logistics Index, a logistics benchmark for e-commerce companies operating in India, for the July - September second quarter.
Built from a 3PL Logistics companies’ point of view, the report divides e-commerce into six different sectors and uses data from 40 sector representative players with 30+ expert discussions, 4300+ customer surveys and 1200+ merchant surveys.
The research result analyses the growth of each sector and companies with respect to others and the factors influenced them from quarter to quarter. The report also announced sectorial and company winners in each sector as well as logistics parameters including Growth and Scale Index, Speed and Cost Efficiency Index, Customer Experience Index and Merchant Experience Index.
The report predicts Indian e-commerce logistics market to grow from 2,552 million shipments in FY2020 to 10,485 million shipments in FY2025, while 3PL e-commerce logistics market will move from 751 to 3,156 million shipments in the same period.
Abhishek Bansal, co-founder and CEO, Shadowfax, said, “The Indian e-commerce sectors have some interesting developments happening. Businesses are going for a more localised sourcing of their products so that they don’t have to do inter-state movements of goods for deliveries. More small warehouses are coming up in and around cities to facilitate this. For example, the omnichannel retailers are attempting to offer online shopping with superior hyper-local experience."
“Compared to the pre-Covid levels, deliveries per hour in July to September quarter has increased 15 percent across all sectors in the Index. This can be also translated as 15 percent increase in efficiency of the e-commerce business. This is unprecedented as such efficiency improvements will take years to achieve and Covid situation did this in just few months," he added.
Overall Redseer Shadowfax Logistics Index winners
Growth and Scale Index: Horizontals dominated in growth Index during the July – September quarter with 113 percent shipment growth due to Covid recovery and pent up demand.
Speed and Cost Efficiency Index: Omni-channel retailers dominated in performance and efficiency due to their low cost of fulfilment. Hyper-local brands and vertical platforms have a high cost of fulfilment.
Customer Experience Index: Horizontal and vertical sectors led in customer experience across logistics parameters reflecting their higher NPS. eB2B needs deeper solutions to create customer delight.
