Ola, the social riding platform, announced the launch of Ola Share, India's first social ride-sharing platform in Pune and Hyderabad. With this, Ola Share is now available across 7 cities - Bangalore, Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai and Pune. With a strong understanding of the market dynamics and customers, Ola has created a first of its kind social ridesharing solution for India. Social groups on the Ola app allows users who travel on the same routes to share their cab rides with fellow users from identified groups. Ola Share makes for economical fares, allowing customers to save up to 50 percent on the trip cost.

Ola Share is designed to help users to ride together within the comfort of their social groups, also contributing to reduced pollution and congestion in their city. Fares for customers are substantially lower, since a ride can now be shared by up to three people at any point in time. All of Ola’s security features like Track your Ride, Share Ride Details, SOS, Emergency Contacts, 24x7 Customer Support and In-trip feedback are available for users on Ola Share. Also, customers can choose to share rides with members of social groups they are part of, without having to share their ride with strangers.

Most Indian cities are battling with the issue of on-road congestion and vehicular pollution. Recently, Ola released a study of traffic patterns across top metros in India which indicated that average speeds in top Indian metros were as low as 20 km per hour or less. The need of the hour therefore, is for people to utilise existing resources more efficiently. Ridesharing presents a convenient and practical alternative for mobility that is affordable and reliable.

Ishan Gupta, Category Head - Shared Mobility, said, “Shared Mobility is the future of transportation in India. With Ola Share, we are addressing the need for reliable and affordable mobility, at scale. Customers get the convenience of a regular cab ride at lower fares, with the comfort of sharing their rides within identified social groups. It also has far reaching benefits like reduced pollution and congestion free roads that result in cleaner and greener cities.”

With Ola Share, colleagues from a workplace or friends from a college can come together to share rides amongst themselves. A user can join multiple groups or simply choose to share a ride with anyone. As soon as users request a Share ride on the Ola app, they are matched with other users from their groups along their way. On the other hand, driver-partners get an option to log onto the Share platform, getting instant access to increased revenue of up to 50percent, through continuous fulfilment of booking requests.
