Schenker India, a part of DB Schenker, the transport and logistics division of Deutsche Bahn Group, announced the opening of its Schenker Logistics Centre (SLC) in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Spread over an area of 55,000 sq. ft., the SLC will be providing DB Schenker customers with logistics and warehousing solutions, like last mile deliveries and values added services. The industrial corridors of Gujarat are one of the country’s busiest business regions.

Strategically located near National Highway No.– 8, at a distance of 60 kilometers from the rail port at Kaligam and 370 kms from Mundra Port, the state-of-the-art logistics centre is equipped with advance IT systems for warehouse management. It will be an important part of DB Schenker’s network in India for end-to-end supply chain solutions to its customers. The proprietary Warehouse Management System (WMS) used by DB Schenker is capable of analysis of product supply, forecast and demand fulfillment, real-time data input, interface capabilities, web order placing and other customized functions. This results in significant reductions in cost and delivery time for customers to final destinations.

Commenting on the development, Shrichand Chimnani, Director Logistics – Schenker India said, “The opening of our logistics centre in Ahmedabad is part of our overall strategy to expand our warehousing capacity by 50 per cent to three million sq ft. The warehouse is strategically located close to railhead and port and features advanced IT systems that allow our customers to manage their supply chain better and more efficiently.
