June 25, 2019: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has inaugurated a Specialised Maintenance Unit (SMU) for in-country repairing of ELDIS radars.
The inauguration was done by Dr Guruprasad Mohapatra, chairman, AAI in the presence of ambassador of Czech Republic, Milan Hovorka on June 24.
The facility will help in reducing Turnaround Time (TAT) of repair of unserviceable modules of the radars, thereby reducing the down time of the important surveillance facility of Indian air space. More than 80 percent of Indian air space is under the coverage of radars.
The SMU has been provided with a customised repair facility from M/s ELDIS along with required manpower training, documentations and hardware/software tools at a total cost of around Rs30 crore.
AAI and ELDIS together are looking forward to make this unit as the repair and maintenance centre of ELDIS radars in the Asia Pacific region.
ERDIS - ELDIS Radar Display System – is an ATC Centre system developed by the ELDIS Pardubice company and designed for the ATC centers, i.e. ACC, APP and TWR workplaces.
