Indian ports celebrate World Environment Day

Jun 06, 2017: On the occasion of World Environment Day, the JNPT Antwerp Port Training and Consultancy Foundation arranged a five day training program on “Ports and Environment-Sustainable and Responsible Management”, at its training centre for officials of other major ports.

Anil Diggikar, chairman, JNPT administered the Environmental Pledge to 200 port employees. A sapling plantation drive was also carried out near the administration building of JNPT.

Meanwhile, the Gangavaram Port also planted more than 5000 saplings during the environmental week in and around the port. The port celebrated the day by initiating a week long green belt development and awareness program at the port premises to create knowledge and express their commitment towards environmental sustainability.

The staff and the management of the port pledged to plant more than 60,000 saplings in the port premises and neighbourhood area during the year.

World Environment Day is celebrated worldwide to create awareness about protection of the Environment. This year’s theme declared by United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is “Connecting People to Nature”.
