May 08, 2017: Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, who recently visited Northeast India to do a survey of seven new broad-gauge railway lines in Arunachal Pradesh, stated that currently projects worth about Rs. 90,000 crore are being executed in the northeast.

Prabhu laid the foundation stone for construction of a 26-km-long new broad gauge railway line from Mukongselek in Assam to Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh.

He also flagged off a new Shatabdi Express between Naharlagun and Guwahati. The Railway Minister said that the Indian Railways has accelerated its developmental work and in the last three years alone had invested close to Rs. 3.5 lakh crore for various projects in the country for capacity enhancement.

"Connectivity in the north east is the priority of the centre and efforts are underway for the electrification of all the BG lines in the region in the next five years," he said from the NFR headquarters at Maligaon in Guwahati through video conferencing.

Prabhu also added that Indian Railways will launch a new Application for mobile platform to address passenger grievances very soon.

These surveys are in addition to the surveys already announced for strategic lines connecting Tawang, Along and Parsuramkund in Arunachal, and are targeted for completion by December 2018. Total survey length of seven new lines is around 594 km.

Prabhu on Saturday announced commencement of work of the much-awaited Railway Electrification from Raninagar Jalpaiguri to Guwahati.
