Apr 20, 2017: Minister of Railways Suresh Prabhu recently dedicated 45 new freight terminals under Mission Hundred and flagged off three freight trains through video conferencing from Rail Bhavan.

The new freight trains were flagged off from freight terminals Adani, Kila Raipur; Penna Cement, Tandur and CONCOR, ICD, Khemli.

Prabhu also flagged off first High Axle Load Steel Carrier rake under Special Freight Train Operator (SFTO) policy from Jamshedpur. A passenger train (Train No 16791/16792) from Punalur to Palakkad was also flagged off by him.

Speaking about the passenger train, Prabhu said, “Kerala is a state with high population density with not much urban rural divide, so demand for public transport is high. Providing intercity transport for Kerala is important. This new train would cater to the needs of people of Kerala. Stoppages and timings of this train has been taken care of based on the suggestions from the representations from the state.”

Prabhu further said that for railway, freight is an important segment and therefore, changes in freight policies are always required. The 45 freight terminals, which were inaugurated on the same day, will bring changes in the freight policy, he added.

The High Axle Load train is a customised rolling stock based on need of customers. Challenge for Railways is to run passenger and cargo train on same track and maintain the punctuality.
