Maersk Line’s Klaus Rud Sejling takes over as CEO of Damco

Sept 29, 2016: Klaus Rud Sejling, current head of east west trades in Maersk Line, has been appointed CEO of Damco with effect from October 1. The current CEO of Damco Hanne B Sorensen, has decided to leave the Maersk Group.

Sejling joined the Group in 1997 and has worked in various roles in Maersk Tankers and Maersk Line before joining Maersk Logistics as Branch Manager and later as CCO for Greater China. Most recently, he has been Head of Group Strategy; and COO and CCO of Maersk Tankers, before re-joining Maersk Line as Head of East West Trades in 2014.

“Klaus Rud Sejling has had a very impressive 20-year-career with the Maersk Group and has held a number of leadership positions in many of our Business Units, including a four-year-period in Maersk Logistics – today called Damco,” says Soren Skou, Maersk Group CEO.

Sejling said, “I am thrilled to join Damco at such an exciting time, to continue to drive growth and leverage synergies across the Transport and Logistics division.”

Sorensen said, “After 22 years with AP Moller - Maersk, I have decided to leave my position as CEO for Damco. It has been a great journey and I have been lucky to meet inspirational leaders along the way who had great confidence in my capabilities. I enjoyed my role at Damco and will miss working with thousands of colleagues who have shared the journey with me as well as the great interactions with our customers. Damco is in a good place and has an exciting role to play to drive customer focus in the new division, Transport & Logistics.”

Sorensen will leave the Maersk Group on October 14. She took over as CEO of Damco in January 2014 coming from a position as CEO for Maersk Tankers from 2012 to 2014. Sorensen started her career at Maersk in 1994 when she joined as an economist. Between 1997 and 2002, she held various CFO positions for Maersk Line in India, Italy and Singapore. From 2002 to 2006 she was Global Programme Director for the implementation of the SAP-based financial system in Maersk Line. In 2006, Sorensen was promoted to Group Vice President and Maersk Line Area Manager for the Eastern Mediterranean region with base in Genoa. She became Chief Commercial Officer for Maersk Line in 2008.
