In a bid to foster better communication and effective dissemination of information among trade partners, GVK Mumbai International Airport (MIAL) along with its strategic technology partner Kale Logistics Solutions has launched India’s first Cargo Mobile App as an extension to its air cargo community platform, GMAX. The app provides important functionalities for trade partners, enables end-to-end tracking of shipments, and helps all members of the logistics chain in planning their resources.

The GMAX mobile app can be downloaded from Google Play store on all Android mobile devices.

Among its numerous features, the app enables:

  • Export general manifest (EGM) tracking, which can expedite the export incentive realisation process.
  • Complete visibility of vehicles/shipment within cargo terminal.
  • Detailed tracking up to the destination, along with filing of mandatory regulatory documents at the destination airport.

The app provides different levels of authorized access for the Cargo Terminal Operators, Customs, Customs Brokers, Airlines, Freight Forwarders, Shippers/Consignees and other Statutory Bodies, thereby offering greater visibility into Cargo Operations.

It facilitates on-the-go tracking of AWBs and shipments. Agents/exporters can verify EGM Status online and accordingly initiate export incentive realisation process. The app enables complete vehicle tracking within the air cargo complex, i.e. right from the entry gate to the vehicle gate-out. Agents/importers can track IGM status and accordingly accelerate shipment clearance process.

Manoj Singh, vice president and head of cargo, MIAL, said, “Transparency and efficiency are essential in cargo logistics, especially for operations the size we have at MIAL. We achieved both to a large extent with the GMAX portal and have now taken it a step further with the mobile app. This will have tangible cost and resource benefits at every stage of cargo operations. Moreover the Government of India has been advocating the need for a ‘Digital India’ and we are glad to have continued our support for this movement with our latest innovation.”

Speaking on the occasion of the launch, Rajesh Panicker, COO - Kale Logistics said, “This is a very significant milestone for us towards our larger goal of unifying the entire global logistics supply chain on a common unified technology platform. It is a demonstration of the capability of our Airport solutions to power e-Freight at our customers’ airports. We are confident that this will take trade and customer facilitation at MIAL to the next level.”

GVK MIAL is the largest air cargo airport in India, contributing around 33 percent of international cargo volume. MIAL and Kale Logistics hold the distinction of having delivered India’s first air cargo community platform when they launched GMAX (short for GVK MIAL Air Exchange) in Dec 2013.

The GMAX platform is used by more than 1800 forwarders and custom brokers and has successfully processed more than 3.5 million EDI Transactions for 500 destinations since its launch - the fastest ever EDI adoption. It conforms to all industry regulations with connectivity to more than 90 airlines. The GMAX platform strengthens digital interface between cargo terminal operator and air cargo stakeholders including customs and other trade facilitation bodies like the Chambers of Commerce. It has helped attain 100 percent EDI for two leading European carriers at their Mumbai Station.
