Jan 21, 2017: The Lohegaon airport is likely to start an international cargo operations facility, the authorities at the airport have hinted after a Bureau of Civil Aviation Security team visited the airport and carried on a three-day inspection.

According to media reports, the BCAS team has cleared the proposal, pending for the past few years.

An airport official said the team suggested that the airport should begin international cargo operations soon. Meetings would be held to discuss the ways to implement the plan.

At present, there is no facility for import and export of international cargo from the Lohegaon airport. Any international cargo intended for Pune has to come through the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai.

Sources pointed out that a separate cargo area could be developed in the airport.
